Space 01: The elemental and poetic
expression of programmatic systems liberates this mid-rise multifamily
residential structure from its typological expectations. Reacting
to both functional and emotional stimuli, the project’s form
emerged from an auto-evolutionary process—defining itself through
simplification and efficiency. |
|
Two distinct volumes, separated by a dramatic fissure convey the main
programmatic components of the project—parking and residential
space. Sculptural elements-- expressing all modes of movement both
horizontal, vertical, diagonal, pedestrian and vehicular, complete
the composition— dynamically contrasting the rigidity main forms.
The parking mass, articulated by various textures of screen, distorts
views of the interior while maintaining a light and airy parking experience
within. Parking ramps—pure expressions of function, penetrate
and weave up to the gap— allowing for the building lobby to be
formed from residual space at the ground floor. Extruded and distorted,
the mass enclosing the elevators and main egress stair, snakes up the
building—reaching towards the sky. An undulating metallic mesh--
elliptical in shape, encapsulates the secondary egress stair which
appears to dissolve at both top and bottom.

Comprising 54 units, the residential module, is expressed as a pure rectilinear
volume, incorporating various articulations of skin. On the east face,
an aluminum screen distorts the perception of scale—cloaking the
exterior passages with a simultaneously translucent, opaque and reflective
membrane. On the north and south—horizontal slots, correlating
with strategic interior sightlines create a vibrant pattern of solid
and void within a stucco field. Fronting the bay, the eastern façade
employs multiple skins that sheath the entire volume-- allowing for distinct
filtration of light permeation and pattern. Retractable, low-energy emission
glazing captures light and reflects heat. Solar shades and diaphanous
curtains abstract and filter light and view. The dynamic nature of this
façade permits multiple readings of the building—reacting
to every occupant’s whim, from maximum openness to complete privacy. |

| Space: The limitless area in
which all things exist and move.
The concept of an open architecture -- transferring
responsibility of the buildings image to the end-user, allows for
a complete interactive experience that is further reinforced in
the openness of the individual units. The units of Space01 are
comprised of 3 primary zones -- a super-sized flex space (larger
than most two bedroom apartments), a private realm for changing
and bathing, and a multipurpose room with bath and storage areas.
Comprising approximately 12’ high ceilings, the openness
of these units permit complete synthesis between interior and exterior.
The boundaries of apartment and outdoors are blurred -- an experience
further enhanced by the occupy able water feature within the unit.
This free flow of space provides each owner complete flexibility
of configuration and style. Broad open-air corridors permit double
exposure to light and view, while maintaining privacy.
Light, sky, water, and vegetation become intangible
materials within the apartment -- amplifying the total immersion
of this idyllic island setting within your own environment.

are surrounded by luscious vegetation of edible and fragrant natures.
At 170’ in the air, this euphoric sky-scape, orientated towards
the Miami skyline, is an artificially enhanced experience that superimposes
multiple elements of pleasure to ensure maximum stimulation. Large
beds around the pool provide moments of sun intake, while secretive
enclaves allow for a more shaded experience. A concealed stair connects
the garden level with a fitness/ recreation room below. |
